MP meets with primary school student council
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert visited Barnham Primary School last week (Monday 28 May) following the schools Diamond Jubilee Fair.
Mr Herbert was given a tour of the school's facilities by headteacher Julie Hodgson and had the opportunity to find out about how the school celebrated the Diamond Jubilee.
Following the tour, Mr Herbert had the opportunity to meet with pupils from the school council, who spoke about the projects they had worked on, including composing a rap song to warn other pupils of the dangers faced from traffic when walking to school.
Mr Herbert was also shown photographs taken during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations at the school where pupils had the opportunity to dress in red, white and blue, and headteacher Mrs Hodgson dressed as the Queen herself.
Following the visit, Mr Herbert commented: "It was a pleasure to meet the staff and children of Barnham Primary School, and I enjoyed hearing all about their recent celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee."
"I was also delighted to have the opportunity to meet the student council and hear how they were working hard to promote safety throughout the school and community, by using entertaining methods such as singing and poetry".
Headteacher of Barnham Primary School, Mrs Hodgson added: "It was wonderful that Mr Herbert was able to join us and hear about the initiatives that our children are promoting through our Barnham Environmental Sustainability Team, such as highlighting road safety during walk to school week."
