MP visits award winning primary school
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert visited St John the Baptist Primary School in Findon last week (18 May) after they were chosen as the South East winners of the Make IT Happy 2012 competition.
Make IT Happy, which is a national competition open to primary schools, is now in its sixth year and is the only competition of its type in the UK.
Schools are challenged to use IT to contribute to a healthier life for students, the school community and even for those in the wider community
Each year nine regional winners across England and one winner from each of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are chosen to receive a prize of £1,200.
In June the regional winners are invited to an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament where one school will be chosen as the national winner and receive the top prize of £4000.
During his visit to St John the Baptist Primary School, Mr Herbert had the opportunity to take part in a cooking class and also joined children outdoors where they have been growing vegetables in their own vegetable patch.
Following his visit Nick Herbert commented: "It was a pleasure to visit St John the Baptist Primary School and to see how their pupils are using technology.
"I am delighted that the school has been recognised by the Make IT Happy awards and I wish them the best of luck when they visit Westminster to learn who has been chosen as the national winner".
