MP meets rising tennis stars in Hurstpierpoint
Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert met two local junior tennis players at their club in Hurstpierpoint on Friday (25 October).
The tennis club, which is located on the village green, has over 200 members. The Chairman Alan Bedford invited Nick to the club to meet some of the members and hear about the plans for the club.
The club has been awarded a Sport England grant of £25,000 under the Inspired Facilities scheme. This is part of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
The grant is made available to community sports clubs who need to upgrade or refurbish existing facilities. The Hurstpierpoint Tennis Club are hoping to install new floodlights around the courts which currently have no lighting.
The new floodlighting would enable players to play after school and work when the evenings are darker. This additional training will help to progress young players who currently have to travel to Brighton to use alternative floodlit facilities in the Winter period.
Nick Herbert MP said: "It's so important to have the facilities that enable young people to take part in sport, and it was great to see this popular tennis club in Hurstpierpoint and to meet some of its members and keen young players."
