Nick raises concerns about waste proposal
Speaking in response to concerns in Ashington about a proposed green waste facility at Broadbridge Farm, Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert said:
"I know that there are strong local concerns about the renewed application for a composting facility at Broadbridge Farm. While I have no powers as an MP to interfere in the planning process, I can and will relay the strong feelings of the community to West Sussex County Council, as I did last time.
"The recycling of green waste is a valuable activity but it must be properly located. Ashington residents are understandably concerned that the proposed plant is too near to the village, and this is also a greenfield site. These activities should be located away from settlements and on brownfield sites.
"I will therefore object to the application on behalf of my constituents and do what I can to support the village.
"I know that Councillor Philip Circus is very much aware of this issue, and while he has been advised that he should not attend this meeting as this could prejudice his ability to speak and vote on the application at a later stage, I am sure that he will want to follow the work of Frank Wilkinson who did so much to speak up for Ashington residents on this and other issues."
