MP praises new Queen's Award winners ADF Milking Limited

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert attended a ceremony at ADF Milking Limited to see the company receive their Queen's Award from the Lord Lieutenant Susan Pyper, on Friday (6 September).

ADF Milking Limited, a Slindon based company established in 2005, is an entrepreneurial business that has developed a system to improve the health and efficiency of dairy cows.  ADF stands for Automatic Dipping and Flushing, which is the revolutionary system they have created and are now selling to milking parlours worldwide. 

ADF Milking has helped dairy farmers reduce cases of mastitis in dairy herds, so helping to achieve higher yields of milk production.  It also means that a farmer who uses the ADF system needs to use less teat cleaning chemicals and antibiotics on his cows.  This is good news for the farmer, the cows, and also consumers.

Much of the system which the company sells is built on site at Slindon, using parts from many local suppliers.

The Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation is the UK's highest accolade for business success and was announced on the Queen's birthday.  ADF Milking beat off competition from 300 other companies in the Innovation category.

The Queen's representative, the Lord Lieutenant for West Sussex Susan Pyper, presented the ADF team with their prestigious crystal rose bowl at the ceremony.  She praised the commitment to excellence that the business had shown.  The Clerk to the Lieutenancy, West Sussex County Council's Chief Executive Kieran Stigant, read the citation from Her Majesty The Queen.

ADF Milking will hold this award for the next five years and is already proudly displaying the Queen's Award emblem on their company polo shirts.

The company's founder, James Duke, met The Queen prior to the ceremony.  

Chief Executive Angus Buchanan said: "We take great pride in our British base and our local suppliers.  I take particular pride that we are proving success can be achieved in many of the areas considered unlikely: a niche business, agriculture, manufacturing and mid economic recession."

Nick Herbert commented: "It was a real pleasure to attend this award ceremony and to see a highly successful local firm achieve such recognition.  Too often both the manufacturing and agricultural industries are talked down in this country.  ADF's success shows the continuing relevance of both."
