MP offers inspirational Westminster experience
To celebrate International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March, Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert is offering the opportunity for a girl or young woman in his constituency to shadow him in Parliament for the day.
The day will enable a young person to experience political life and see how Parliament works.
In addition, the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP, has agreed to host an afternoon reception during which the participants can meet up and swap stories about their day.
The initiative is being organised by the All Party Women in Parliament Group to support the theme ‘Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures' on International Women's Day. The aim is to inspire girls or young women who are interested in politics or taking a leading role in the community.
Interested constituents are invited to contact Mr Herbert as soon as possible by e-mail at nick@nickherbert.com and say why they would like to take up the offer. The MP will select the best applicant to shadow him for the day.
Nick Herbert commented: "I think this is a great idea and I would be delighted if a young person would like to shadow me for the day.
"This particular initiative is designed to support International Women's Day, but if there are any male applicants we will select one and find another day for them.
"Each year we have young constituents who do a week or so's work experience in my Parliamentary office. It is always a pleasure to give them this opportunity, and I think they find it a very interesting experience."
