MP holds public meeting in Hassocks
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert hosted a public meeting in Hassocks last week (27 July) at the Adastra Hall.
The meeting gave residents of Hassocks the opportunity to meet their local Member of Parliament and discuss local or national issues, and to raise any concerns they had directly with their local MP.
Local district councillor for Hassocks, Councillor Gordon Marples, joined Mr Herbert, and the newly selected Conservative candidate for Sussex' Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, also attended the meeting as a member of the audience.
There were many local residents in attendance and subjects discussed ranged from local issues, including neighbourhood watch in Hassocks and the problem of travellers illegally occupying land, to national issues including the euro crisis and the Human Rights Act.
Mr Herbert holds regular public meetings throughout his constituency so that residents have the opportunity to meet him in person.
Following the meeting, Nick Herbert commented: "I was really pleased that so many people attended the public meeting in Hassocks, demonstrating the community spirit in the village.
"I really enjoy holding public meetings as it offers me the opportunity to engage with local residents on the issues that matter to them".
Mr Herbert also holds regular surgeries, allowing constituents to discuss a personal issue or concern with him on a one to one basis. To book appointment constituents can write to him at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA or e-mail nick@nickherbert.com.
