MP celebrates Love Your Local Market Fortnight in Walberton
16/07/2012
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert dropped in to Walberton Market last week (6 July) to celebrate Love Your Market Fortnight.
Love your Local Market is an exciting new national campaign to showcase markets of all types from around the UK. Running between the 23 June and 08 July 2012, the Campaign was created as a response to the Mary Portas Report on the future of our High Streets, which called for a National Markets' Day to incentivise entrepreneurs to try out new ideas and encourage visitors to town centres.
Walberton Market is held every first Friday of the month between 10.30am and 12 noon with stalls offering a wide variety of items including fresh produce, home-baked goods and local crafts.
During his visit, Mr Herbert had the opportunity to meet some of the regular stall holders and purchase some local produce including pear juice and free range eggs.
Walberton Market organiser, Jo Rea said: "We were delighted Nick was able to visit to our Walberton market, and very much appreciate his support in raising its profile as well as raising awareness of the work our members carry out through the Aldingbourne Country Centre "
Following his visit, Mr Herbert commented: "I was delighted to visit Walberton Market and meet some of the fantastic people who run stalls every month. Despite being a small market, I was pleased to find so many wonderful products on offer and locally sourced produce.
"Our local markets are such a great feature of village life in the South Downs, so often thanks to the volunteers who help to keep them going for the benefit of the community."
