Nick Herbert visits local care home in Henfield
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert paid a visit to the Red Oaks Care Home in Henfield on Friday morning (27 November) to meet the staff and residents.
Mr Herbert was given a tour of the home by General Manager Jacky Welch and met some of the residents in the lounge for a ‘question and answer' session.
The MP also visited the Lavender wing where residents with dementia are stimulated by objects from the past, including a Singer sewing machine, clothes from the 1930s and ‘reminiscence boxes' on loan from Horsham Museum.
Red Oaks, a private home owned and run by Barchester Healthcare, provides accommodation for 60 residents and was rated "excellent" in its last Commission for Social Care Inspection.
In November last year, the home received a visit from chat show host Sir Michael Parkinson who was there to launch a new award scheme to recognise staff who provide outstanding care for residents and patients.
Nick Herbert commented: "I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Red Oaks to meet the staff and residents. There was a very warm and friendly atmosphere in the home and the residents are clearly very well cared for. I was delighted to see that residents receive a glass of sherry before lunch - it was all very civilised and if one day I'm moved into a home I think I'd like to come here!"
