MP thanks Pulborough's 'good neighbours' at special evening
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert welcomed the launch of a Good Neighbours scheme at a special ‘thank you’ evening for the Pulborough and District Community Care Association in the Village Hall on Friday (24 November).
The annual gathering of the PDCCA is an opportunity to recognise the significant contribution of the many volunteers in the Pulborough area who support the community.
The PDCCA has been running for 50 years and has a developed a strong network of dedicated volunteers who help with their social groups, lunch clubs, home visits and transportation services.
At the Friday evening event Peter Jones, one of the volunteers, announced the launch of the Association’s ‘Good Neighbours’ scheme. It is run by a small group of volunteers who recognise the value of having ‘good neighbours’, particularly where public transport and other local services can be limited and where peoples families may not live close by.
Peter, the Good Neighbours Coordinator said: “There are lots of very successful schemes throughout Sussex. We hope local residents will use this as a central point for help and information and maintain the reputation that Pulborough has, for being helpful and caring.”
Nick Herbert said: “It is always a pleasure to support the Pulborough volunteers who do so much for their local community and who are so generous with their time. I was delighted to see the launch of the Good Neighbours scheme which is a great initiative to connect residents, especially those more isolated, with the many activities available.”
