MP starts the annual duck race in Storrington
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert launched the first tub of yellow plastic ducks into the river at this year’s Storrington Duck Race (8 May), an event which has raised over £5,700 for the local school.
The event is held annually to raise money for the Friends of Storrington First School for enhancements to the school. The proceeds of this year’s event will go towards making improvements to the school’s outdoor swimming pool so that it can become a community resource for everyone to enjoy.
Money was raised from visitors who bought numbered ducks to enter into the river race, and cash prizes awarded for the winning duck ‘owners’. The event included a funfair, produce stalls and boot sale to help boost the fundraising efforts.
Mr Herbert said: “It was pleasure to begin this year’s races, one of the more unusual things I have been asked to do as an MP! I am delighted that the event was such a success. The money raised will benefit the whole community who will no doubt be looking forward to using the swimming pool once it is open.”
