Barnham student shadows MP at Westminster
A sixth form student from Barnham joined Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert in his office at Westminster for three days' work experience last week (18-20 July).
Finn Middleton, aged 16, is studying Economics, Law and History at Bishop Luffa Sixth Form in Chichester. He wants to go on to study Politics and International Relations at university. He told Mr Herbert that he was considering a career as a political speechwriter or researcher.
Finn spent time with the MP and his Westminster team, and was given the opportunity to see the inside workings of Parliament. As well as going on a full tour of the Houses of Parliament, Finn was able to watch a session of the Defence Select Committee.
Finn also shadowed the MP in a meeting with the new Housing and Planning Minister about neighbourhood planning, a key local issue that Mr Herbert is engaged with.
Speaking after his three days at Westminster, Finn said: “It was a fantastic experience and I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity. Not only was I able to see what the people supporting the MPs do, but I also got to meet and shadow Mr Herbert in meetings aimed at solving important issues within the constituency.”
Nick Herbert said: “I am always delighted to offer work experience for enthusiastic young constituents, and it was a pleasure to spend time with Finn and support his interest in politics. I hope his three days at Westminster have inspired him further, and I wish him well in his chosen career.”
