MP visits Age Concern centre in Hassocks

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert and County Councillor Andy Petch (Hassocks & Victoria) visited the Age Concern group in Hassocks on Friday (6 December).

The Pauline Thaw Centre in Dale Avenue is home to the Age Concern Hassocks and District group.  The Centre provides a place for anyone over 55 to meet, make friends, take part in a wide range of activities and share a meal.  The Centre also arranges transport to collect and drop off visitors.

Mr Herbert met Jill Marsh, the Day Manager, who introduced him to local people and the volunteers who help to run the Centre.

Mr Herbert and Councillor Petch also held surgery meetings at the Centre in one of the rooms which is available to the public to hire.

Andy Petch said: "It's hard not to be impressed by the brilliant work and the friendly informal atmosphere at the Pauline Thaw centre.  I'd encourage anyone looking to make new friends to pay the Centre a visit."

Jill Marsh said: "We were absolutely delighted that Nick and Andy came to see us, and to see all the activities we provide for the over 55s.  We are very proud of our Centre and welcome new members to come and enjoy the friendly atmosphere."

Nick Herbert said: "It was a pleasure to meet everyone at the Centre, which had a lovely atmosphere.  The members all told me that they enjoy visiting it, and I can see why.

"The Centre provides so much for older people, and as ever it can do this thanks to the wonderful support of local volunteers, who all deserve our special thanks for what they do."
